Job overview

This 12 month post is a senior fellowship for anaesthetists with at least three years anaesthetic training. The fellowship is split 40% Simulation and education, 60% anaesthesia The post includes a fully funded PG Cert in Medical Education at QMUL over the 12 month post.

The post also offers the opportunity for a senior clinical fellow to obtain advanced competencies in one of a number of surgical specialties undertaken at RLH (eg neuro, complex obstetrics, perioperative medicine and high risk preassessment, regional anaesthesia, trauma anaesthesia major abdominal surgery) or to develop their CV by undertaking QI projects or research. In addition, each successful candidate will have a dedicated educational supervisor to support their career goals.


Out of hours they will work with a team of an anaesthetic core trainee, an obstetric anaesthetic registrar, a paediatric anaesthetic registrar and a senior anaesthetic registrar under the supervision of an anaesthetic consultant.

The Department of Anaesthesia provides a service for all surgical specialities within Bart’s Health and is involved in many exciting initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic
individuals with the appropriate skills to join a first class multi-disciplinary team providing the full range of services to the majority of East London and beyond in a progressive London teaching hospital environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS
  • Primary FRCA
  • Registration and licencing held within the GMC
  • Basic Level training certificate in Anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Higher education qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Anaesthetist in year CT3/ST3+ or equivalent
  • Previous experience of teaching UK medical students.
  • Minimum of three years in recognised specialist anaesthetic training posts or equivalent
  • Evidence of achievement of ST3 competences in anaesthetics at time of application
  • NHS clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in delivering education, ideally in an inter-professional setting.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrated experience with simulation-based education events
  • Demonstrated experience in research-based activities and data collection

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic knowledge of educational theory
  • Computer literacy: word, excel, power point
