Consultant in General Radiology (Head and Neck Radiology)
YM72
Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.
The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.
Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.
Barts Health supports the Pregnancy Loss Pledge and commits to supporting their staff through the distress of miscarriage.
We are dedicated to being an outstanding place to work and will work with you to get the best experience. We know flexible working is not a one size fits all and will mean something different to everyone. We are inclusive, so if you are interested in flexible working, please speak to the recruiting manager.
Job overview
The advertised post is for a substantive Radiology Consultant with an interest in Head and Neck Imaging at Barts Health NHS Trust and is open to applicants with a background in either General Radiology or Diagnostic Neuroradiology. The Royal London Hospital is a major trauma center and Barts Health one of the largest Trusts in Europe. The post is one of several substantive radiology appointments being made to support the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) for Northeast London, based at Mile End Hospital.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our dynamic team of 6 head and neck radiologists to help deliver the service and to support the active training program. The post will be predominantly based at the Royal London and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals and will require a day at the CDC. Candidates should have subspeciality training in Head and Neck imaging including Ultrasound and Ultrasound-guided procedures.
Main duties of the job
A successful General Radiology candidate should be able to demonstrate essential imaging skills in acute general radiology, including trauma, and have extensive experience in all aspects of cross-sectional imaging, ultrasound and plain film reporting. PET CT experience is not essential. You will join our dedicated team of 35 radiologists who currently support general imaging services as well as supporting specialist MDT’s.
A successful Diagnostic Neuroradiology candidate should have completed subspecialist training in diagnostic neuroradiology and will be expected to undertake all aspects of diagnostic neuroradiology. You will join our team of 19 neuroradiologists (including 6 neuro interventional radiologists) currently providing a
comprehensive neuroimaging service to the Trust. There is a regional neurosciences Unit, regional head & neck Unit, level 1 Trauma Unit and Hyperacute Stroke Unit all located at the RLH site with Oncology / Cyberknife radiosurgery located at Barts.
The Ear, Nose and Throat and Maxillo-facial surgery departments provide a tertiary referral service including head and neck oncology. This includes provision of a dedicated head and neck one stop service in collaboration with the ENT/OMFS surgeons, oncologists, and pathologists. There is also a combined skull base MDT with the Neurosurgical and Oncology departments.
