Managing Director - International and Private Care
Executives / VSM: Executives / VSM
Job overview
International & Private Care (I&PC) at Great Ormond Street Hospital provides tertiary and quaternary specialist care to children from over 90 countries each year as well as UK private patients. The patients attending I&PC often cannot access the complex treatment and care they require in their home country and are funded by their government, employer or insurance to access care in I&PC.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the postholder will provide strategic leadership to existing and new international activities within GOSH, with a primary focus on the delivery of a high performing and financially successful private patient business.
The postholder will be responsible for the provision of a responsive service in our purpose built Octav Botnar Wing. I&PC treats and cares for children with an unrivalled range of medical and surgical conditions including haematology/oncology, immunology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, ENT, metabolic and nephro-urology disorders.
I&PC has extensive links with many of the Gulf States and has an overseas office in United Arab Emirates through which our network is maintained and developed. The office helps smooth the process for admission to I&PC at GOSH as well as provide follow-up support to patients and their families once they have returned home.
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer informal conversations to those who have not been shortlisted for interview.
Interviews are expected to take place on Wednesday 2 July 2025.
Main duties of the job
- Provide leadership and direct oversight to the operational management of GOSH’s private practice business, through an understanding of the business models and the challenges they face.
- Specifically be accountable for the delivery of the effective operations of the private patient service within the UK and internationally, ensuring its year-on-year growth alongside a clear strategy for improving profit margins.
- Ensure all operations meet the required standards of clinical and corporate governance applicable to the areas in which they operate.
Working for our organisation
We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we’ll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.
Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women’s networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.
We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
