Job overview

Cardiology at Northampton General Hospital has seen exponential growth over the last 5 years. We are therefore looking for an intuitive  7 Echo Physiologist to join our young and dynamic team. The position is also offered with a recruitment and retention bonus in line with the UHN.

We have all the facilities of a tertiary-equivalent Centre, including a modern digital echo lab performing the full range of complex scans including DSE and TOE, regular paediatric clinics.

We are proud to also be part of Satellite clinics for the community Diagnostic Hubs so there will be an expectation to rotate round these clinics.

We are very proud of our Physiologist-led stress echo and contrast / bubble service.. We also see large numbers of Paediatric and ACHD patients.

Main duties of the job

Main duties will involve performing routine and urgent scans in and in-patient and out-patient setting, including working in the new CDC hubs.

Dependent on experience you will also be performing DSE, TOE and paediatric Scans.

We are looking to expand the services to include Physiologist led Valve clinics, TOE clinics and DSE clinics

We offer Echo's in community hubs so there is the expectation to work outside of the trust occasionally.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We are very proud of our Physiologist-led stress echo and contrast / bubble service. We also see large numbers of Paediatric and ACHD patients, as well as Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic’s, TILT table testing and Loop Recorder implants. We are in the process of setting up Physiologist led Valve and TOE clinics

We take pride in our Physiologist led services including Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic’s, Complex Echocardiography, TILT table testing and Loop Recorder implants.

We have a comprehensive Heart Failure service as part of a truly multi-disciplinary team, including Physiologist-led CRT optimisation and follow up clinics

High volume complex PCI (including frequent retrogrades) with routine use of IVUS, OCT, laser and rotablation delivered through 2 cath labs.

All of our Cardiac Physiologists are trained to the highest level and can work independently during Complex implants, follow-ups and all areas of PCI

We have all the facilities of a tertiary-equivalent Centre, including a modern digital echo lab performing the full range of complex scans, satellite echo clinics and the support of fourteen proactive Cardiologists.

The right candidate will have BSc or equivalent and have the BSE accreditation.

In return, we will pay a Recruitment and Retention bonus and will give you the opportunity and support to extend the services we offer.

We have a local training pathway that is currently supporting junior staff members to become accredited and we have future plans to recruit more students so you will be actively involved in Education.

CPD is actively encouraged and funded.

There is easy road access to much of the country with London 50mins away by rail. The beautiful residential towns of Stamford, Market Harborough and Uppingham are all within easy reach of the hospital, as is the City of Leicester which is known for its shopping, culture and leisure.

There has also been significant recent investment in the neighboring town of Corby within the past 2 years, with a new town center which hosts many popular shops and an ever expanding area of new bars and restaurants; however this has not affected the cost of living in the area.

Essential criteria
  • BSc or equivalent in health care sciences
  • Ongoing CPD
  • Evidence of training junior staff
  • BSE accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working within the NHS
  • RCCP registration
  • Experience in DSE
  • Experience in TOE
  • Experience in Paedicatric Echo

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous practical experience in a broad range of basic and advanced Cardiac investigations.
  • At least 2 years post graduate experience in Echo
  • Experience in DSE and complex Echo
  • Staff management and team working skills
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in the NHS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • sound knowledge of invasive and non-invasive cardiology and able to demonstrate competence in performing a range of techniques
  • Able to perform and report unsupervised on a range of electrocardiographic investigations
Desirable criteria
  • Able to organise own workload and that of other staff within specialised area
