Main duties of the job

  • To manage the provision of the EP/CRM service.  Providing services to both outpatients and inpatients.
  • To manage the EP/CRM physiologist/clinical scientist establishment and oversee the training of junior members of staff and other healthcare professional visitors to the department.
  • To facilitate / participate in research projects in collaboration with cardiology consultants within the department.
  • To perform non-routine tests where necessary.
  • To ensure implementation of clinical governance, complaints, and risk management process for the service in monitoring of compliance with clinical governance standards, other Trust-wide policies and processes and best practice requirements.
  • Act as the focal point for communication for the service and ensure effective communication to all stakeholders, ensuring views and decisions are communicated both up and down the management structure

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria
  • Qualified cardiac physiologist
  • IBHRE/BHRS up to date accreditation and registration
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development, including attendance of local/in-house management courses
  • Up-to-date local mandatory training
Desirable criteria
  • Higher academic qualification (MSc/MBA/PhD/doctoral study)
  • Formal management qualification
  • Registered clinical scientist with the HCPC
  • Clinical assessment training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • >5 years’ experience as a band 7 chief cardiac physiologist
  • Previous leadership of a department/sub-speciality area of cardiac physiology
  • Line-management responsibilities for a team of physiologists
  • Strong teaching/training background for individuals undergoing accreditation
Desirable criteria
  • Previously employment as band 8a department lead
  • Lead on service improvement projects with demonstrable outcomes
  • Development of physiologist/scientist led services
  • Personal experience of performing physiologist/scientist led clinics

Skills

  • Sensitive and effective communication skills
  • Clear and precise written communication skills
  • Strong education/training skills. Regular presenter/lead for local/in-house meetings
