Job overview

The post is based in the department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS and will be available from August 2025 until the beginning of March 2026 and be based at St Mary’s/Charing Cross hospitals (the details to be confirmed).

 

Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering high-quality care to infectious diseases inpatients and outpatients, actively participating in clinical duties such as ward rounds, clinics, and multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and contributing to departmental activities including teaching, audit, quality improvement, and academic seminars. The post-holder will work under the supervision of infectious diseases or microbiology consultants, alongside other medical staff, and is expected to maintain clear documentation and communication within the MDT. The position also offers opportunities to develop leadership, teaching, and communication skills while gaining experience in managing a broad range of infectious diseases.

General Responsibilities

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop relevant generic skills including leadership, teaching, communication and managing workload effectively. They will ensure excellent care of patients and ensure collaborative working within the MDT.

Essential criteria
  • • Primary medical qualification
  • • Full GMC registration
  • • MRCP
Desirable criteria
  • • Diploma or Masters in a relevant subject

  • • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • • Understanding and experience of audit projects
  • • Ability to critically appraised a paper
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of service audit
  • • Experience of junior team rota & annual leave coordination
  • • Evidence of academic training
