We are looking for talented QIS (Qualified in Specialty) Neonatal Nurses, Nurses currently on the QIS pathway who are looking at transferring, or Band 5 Nurses waiting for the opportunity to begin their QIS journey to join our team. 

Working within our two neonatal units, including at the CQC ‘Outstanding’ rated Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital Maternity Service, our neonatal team care for nearly 1000 babies each year. We want every member of our nursing team to grow and develop every day. With a team of specialist education nurses, regular simulations and hands on training, and access to university and resus council accredited courses.

Imperial has extensive in house leadership training and development courses to accelerate your career and bespoke support from our charity to assist with additional funding for professional development. New skills, new projects, and new tools mean that nurses working with us have every resource they need to excel.

Main duties of the job

  • To promote Integrated family delivered care within Neonatal services.
  • To reduce risk and maintain patient and staff safety; take lead in investigating clinical incidents and identify ways to improve practice.
  • To effectively communicate with family/carers, the multidisciplinary team and agencies outside the organisation.
  • To supervise, support and assess learning/development of junior staff, pre-registration nursing and midwifery students, nursing associates and nursery nurses. 
  • To participate in research on the clinical floor.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN/ RSCN/ RN Child / RM
  • Neonatal Qualification in Speciality or Equivalent (eg ENB 405)
Desirable criteria
  • Nursing Degree
  • NMC Standards of Student Supervision and Assessment(SSSA) Qualification
  • Neonatal Life Support (NLS) or Advanced Resuscitation of the Newborn Infant (ARNI)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of caring for sick neonates in ITU/HDU/SCBU
  • Leading a small team
  • Supporting students and junior members of staff
Desirable criteria
  • 6 Months experience post QIS Neonatal Qualification

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates an understanding of managing resources and clinical risk
  • Computer skills to enable data collection and use of emails
  • Ability to deputise for nurse in charge
  • Ability to support junior members of staff
Desirable criteria
  • Competency in neonatal cannulation
  • Organisation, administrative and management skills
  • Experience in QI processes
  • More advanced computer skills, use of Microsoft Office and similar tools
