Job overview

The Same Day Emergency Care units at Charing Cross and St Mary's Hospital are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic healthcare assistant to join the team.

You need to be passionate about providing high quality, emergency same day care in this fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute emergency care. You must have excellent communication skills and be excited about being part of an innovative nursing team.

This is an exciting time to join Same Day Emergency Care as we increase the numbers of patients attending the service. We see approximately 60-70 patients a day on each site, with varying presentations including renal colic, DVT, cellulitis, low risk chest pain and many more. We work closely with the Emergency Department, taking many patients from the Urgent Care Centre and ED triage, as well as patients from General Practice, London Ambulance Service and 111. 

This post consists of a mixture of long days (0800-2030) and long day B shifts (0930-2200) and includes weekends, but no nights.

You will be supported by a Deputy matron and the Matron of SDEC.

Main duties of the job

•To support the nursing team and contribute to the care delivery

•Provide effective evidence based care for patients within the department under the indirect supervision and delegation of the Registered Nurse.

•To work closely with the Multi-disciplinary team, including patients and families.

•To promote a positive image of the Trust, Clinical Directorates and departments.

Essential criteria
  • Numerate
  • Able to speak and write English to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements
  • Completed Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • QCF Level 3 in Health or equivalent (NVQ3, Advanced apprenticeship)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate a clear insight into the role.
  • Up to date experience; worked within an acute NHS care setting within the last 18 months.
