Job overview
This is a full-time post, based at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill (DH) .
The clinical duties comprise the investigation and treatment of patients with retinal diseases and allied disorders. Tenure of the post is initially for 12 months but may be renewable by mutual consent. The ideal candidate would be a CCT holder or equivalent who wishes to specialize in the medical treatment of retinal diseases. The post is not a Deanery TSC.
Main duties of the job
Clinics are organised into Diabetes, AMD and Retinal Vein Occlusion Disease. There are nurse delivered intravitreal injections. We have a 577 pattern retinal laser and verteporfin PDT. There is an active retinal research unit and vitreoretinal surgical team in the department. We have 3 networked SD-OCT scanners and OCTA capabilities, network widefield Optos imaging including FFA and ICG and FAF.
Some general ophthalmology provisions and on call are required. The post will be predominantly or exclusively retinal in nature but there may be occasions when the appointee has to cover more general clinical duties, which are based at King’s College Hospital. The following information in this paragraph relates only to these general duties, which are likely to include the management of out-patients and in-patients, including ward referrals.
The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call rota at King’s College Hospital, which may include provision of ophthalmic care to patients of Lewisham, Sidcup and Farnborough. Urgent general referrals from General Practitioners, Optometrists, and the Accident & Emergency Departments of King’s College, Lewisham, Sidcup and Princess Royal Hospitals are usually managed within the booked appointment system of the Kings Rapid Eye Service (KRES) at Denmark Hill or the Rapid Access Unit (RAU) at Queen Marys Hospital but patients may be referred to the on-call team for emergency management.
