Lead Ophthalmic Technician

Are you an Ophthalmic technician looking for an exciting new role? As a Lead Ophthalmic technician, you will provide an efficient specialised support service to all patients allocated for diagnostic testing and face to face assessment.
The post holder will work alongside members of the medical, medical imaging, administrative, nursing team and other allied health professionals. They will support the research nursing staff and medical team in providing high quality individualised care to a defined group of service users, relatives, and carers, ensuring the safety and well-being of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person-centred care principles.
The post holder will supervise and teach/train all members of the multidisciplinary team in ophthalmic imaging.
The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of the maintenance of ophthalmic imaging equipment. Work with IT to network new equipment and troubleshooting issues with existing equipment.

Communication and relationship skills, liaising with other team members as well as patients ensuring that information delivered is understood fully
Technical skills and experience including being able to undertake vision acuity tests using Logmar and Snellen formulation independently; and performing a range of other ophthalmology tests as described in the job description.
Responsibility for ensuring equipment is available and in good working order, arranging repairs when required

- • National Vocational Qualification level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience
- Certificate in OCT acquisition and fundus photography.
- Certificate in anatomy of the eye
- Evidence of continued professional development

- • Foundation degree in Ophthalmic science and technology or equivalent
Knowledge and experience

- Able to perform all imaging tests required for patient requiring ophthalmic assessment and treatment.
- Wide experience of ophthalmic technical imaging equipment.
- Ability to train and supervise staff/colleagues.

- Experience working with photographic equipment, computers, data handling, calibration of equipment, technical experience.
