Job overview

The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership and highly specialist advice on all matters relating to the safeguarding of children and young people across the Trust. Working as part of the children safeguarding team to ensure that all staff understand and meet their responsibility in relation to safeguarding the welfare of children in line with local and national guidance.
Working closely with the Named Nurse team, you will ensure the organisation fulfils its statutory requirements as defined by Working Together (2023) and the RCN Intercollegiate Document.
Based primarily at Northwick Park Hospital, you will join a forward-thinking team committed to the "Think Family" model and Transitional / Contextual Safeguarding, ensuring a child-centred and every contact counts approach is embedded across all Trust services.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual with substantial safeguarding expertise to join our proactive Integrated Safeguarding Children Team at LNWH.

This role involves ensuring robust safeguarding policies and information sharing is completed by working collaboratively with the Safeguarding Children team, Named nurses and doctors and multi agency partners to ensure the Trust meets its Safeguarding Children responsibilities and effectively Safeguarding children.

The post holder will be expected to provide highly specialist advice and clinical support to all healthcare staff in the organisation and to take a leading role in facilitating training and supervision in line with guidelines and legislation.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop their own knowledge and potential with support from our Integrated team.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse: e.g. RGN,RSCN, RMN, RM, appropriate to the role
  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) – Health Visitor or School Nurse.
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent.
  • Level 3 safeguarding children training
  • Evidence of professional development within the safeguarding children field
Desirable criteria
  • Qualification in Mental Health for children and young people.
  • Accredited safeguarding children supervision course.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Studies at Post graduate level.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist Knowledge of the Children Act, Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and other relevant national guidance
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the connections between Children and Adult safeguarding
  • A working knowledge of the Safeguarding children’s agenda, national and local key policy drivers and legislative framework.
  • Experience of working with children and young people subject to Child in Need / Child Protection Plans and those Looked After
  • Evidence of facilitating groups and /or delivering training.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies with complex issues and in complex situations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of care planning, risk assessment and management of complex cases.
  • Experience of undertaking audit to support practice and service improvement
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate leadership skills
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
  • Experience of working in CAMHs or Tier 4 provision.
  • Experience of working with adolescents in a health setting
  • Knowledge of the wider health community.
  • Domestic Abuse/MARAC experience
  • Facilitation Skills training.
  • Experience of report writing and serious incident investigation

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 2 years experience working with children and young people subject to Child protection or looked after child plans
  • Ability to challenge within a multi-agency arena in order to safeguard children

Skills, abilities and attributes

Essential criteria
  • Able to effectively manage risk within a safeguarding context.
  • Ability to provide high level reports.
  • Ability to analyse issues and think critically.
  • Be able to concentrate at high level when reviewing information, undertaking complex work and formulating responses to information provided.
  • I.T skills, including Word and Excel.
  • Skills and ability for line management for junior members of the team eg management of attendance, appraisals etc.
  • Ability to represent Trust at multi-agency forums.
  • Able to prioritise and work under pressure to deliver to targets and timescales.
Desirable criteria
  • Having a working knowledge of Cerner (electronic patient record).
  • Data base Management.
