Main duties of the job

To lead the strategic development and delivery of a multidisciplinary knowledge and library service enabling the Trust workforce to freely access proactive knowledge and library services that meet organisational priorities for high quality patient care and aligned to the vision of the national Knowledge for Healthcare strategy and NHS Libraries Quality Improvement Outcomes Framework.
To create a compelling vision for the transformation of knowledge and library services, devising implementation plans, considering the strategic marketing of the service, evaluating and continually improving service performance.
To provide services that meet the requirements of the NHS Education Contract and the HEE Learning & Development Agenda meet all quality assurance processes.
To provide an efficient and effective service to staff, students and stakeholders from healthcare and education, and to customers from the wider health community, to support the delivery of care.
To lead the knowledge and library service team providing line management support and professional leadership and strategically develop outreach services ensuring specialist information and knowledge skills are available at the point of need.
To advise the Trust on developments arising from national and regional initiatives within the NHS and the wider library and information sector, leading on local implementation.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First degree or Postgrad diploma in Librarianship and/or Information Science or equivalent qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • An in-depth knowledge and understanding of library and knowledge services and their development and application in a multi-disciplinary healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of literature searching using a range of online resources and appraising outcomes critically.
  • Knowledge of web-based information sources and using social media for marketing
  • Knowledge of how to manage effective library enquiry services that delivers high quality services to users.
  • Knowledge of effective people management and their development.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with senior stakeholders to develop strategy, implementation plans and evaluation of library services.
  • Experience of service development and transformation of library services.
  • Experience of managing budgets to ensure value for money is achieved.
  • Significant experience of using information technology in a library or information context.
  • Proven experience of demonstrating the value of knowledge and library services to senior stakeholders.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other healthcare organisations
  • Experience of developing, promoting, and embedding knowledge management and evidence based practice within a healthcare setting.
