Job overview
This is an exceptional career opportunity for an experienced, high calibre pharmacist looking to further advance their career and develop leadership, clinical and prescribing skills within IBD services at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic senior pharmacist to make a difference and ensure the best outcomes for our IBD patients. The post holder will work to ensure the continued provision and development of high quality, comprehensive clinical pharmacy services to patients as well as influence senior managers and clinicians within the Gastroenterology Directorate. We will provide the successful candidate with a comprehensive induction covering all aspects of Trust work, support from senior pharmacy staff and an environment to develop further.
The Pharmacy Service at St George’s is highly regarded across the Trust and South West London region, with around 270 staff members working closely with multi-disciplinary teams. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal and service development including further postgraduate education.
Main duties of the job
• Act as a Senior Pharmacist for IBD Services including independent prescribing services.
• Deputise for the Team Leader and represent the team within the organisation and across interface boundaries.
• Work as an expert pharmacist for local and national IBD services, contributing to advanced decision making and supporting patient care via the IBD advice line.
• In conjunction with the Team Leader, manage and implement services designed to improve the pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice.
• Identify and support the facilitation of CIPs within the relevant directorate and participate in financial reporting and drug budget management.
• Progress service improvement initiatives through multi-disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines.
• To participate in service metric collection, clinical audit, research, risk management and clinical guideline development.
The successful applicant will enjoy working in a busy and challenging environment, be able to manage multiple priorities and deliver against tight deadlines. You will have good communication skills and be an enthusiastic educator. The ability to work autonomously and with a high level of accountability is essential. They should possess a postgraduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and have the relevant hospital pharmacy experience.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- B. Pharm / M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent
- Registered as Independent Non-medical Prescriber
- Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Postgraduate Diploma/MSc in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)
- Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice
Desirable criteria
- Other postgraduate qualifications relevant to pharmacy practice
- Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
- Formal management training
- Diploma tutor accreditation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial post registration experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner to include experience managing patients in gastroenterology and IBD
- Experience in supporting directorate activity. This includes: -drug expenditure reporting -formulary management -DTC applications
- Previous experience in delivering training and education at undergraduate and postgraduate level
- Experience of working within a role involving multidisciplinary communication
- Participation in consultant-led ward rounds
- Experience of identifying and managing risk in a clinical specialty
- Negotiations with health commissioners regarding access to drugs/ high cost drugs via approved pathways
Desirable criteria
- Experience of disciplinary matters and be able to impart results from them to staff in an appropriate and considered manner
- Experience as a designated prescribing practitioner and/or clinical supervisor.
- Involved with clinical research evidenced by abstract/ full publications
- Development of compassionate access pathways, and individual funding requests.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates a good core knowledge of therapeutics and pharmacology with a record of successful application in current post
- Demonstrates a good core knowledge of medications in gastroenterology and IBD.
- Demonstrates awareness of a commitment to Clinical Governance
- Demonstrates an awareness of interface issues
- Demonstrate experience in mentorship and training skills
Desirable criteria
- Familiarity with CMM and Cerner computer systems
- Experience of using an electronic patient record system
- Awareness of current NHS issues including national and local priorities
