Job overview
Pharmacy assistants without a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 2 in pharmacy service skills will be considered but will be expected to work towards this as band 2 to 3 progression.
You will need to have excellent communication skills and enjoy working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team. You will also need to be friendly, approachable, adaptable, flexible, willing to learn new skills and be committed to continuous professional development.
The department actively promotes development, education and training. To apply you will need to have good GCSEs or equivalent and a NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or working towards completing the NVQ level 2 qualification.
This is a full time post fixed term for 12 months and the post holder will be required to participate in the late duty, weekend & bank holiday rota.
Main duties of the job
Working relationships and communication requirements of your job
- Use Pharmacy computer system to produce picking lists, packs and supply drugs and medicines to wards (toping up Omnicell) and departments
- Perform daily temperature monitoring within different areas of the pharmacy department as required by the MHRA
- Assists in labelling and dispensing medicines to inpatients and outpatients, wards and departments when required
- Work on the reception receiving prescriptions from patients and taking responsibility for prescription charge money
- Receive requisitions and telephone calls from healthcare professionals
- Deal with enquiries from patients and healthcare staff and pass on to relevant staff if necessary
- Ensures good housekeeping in the pharmacy by keeping benches and baskets clear of drugs no longer required.
- Checks expiry dates and rotates stock
- Unpack delivery and put drugs away in pharmacy and ward
- Works as a member of the dispensary and drug distribution teams and is role model leading by example.
- Liaises with porters to ensure deliveries are taken to the wards.
