 The National Deaf Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service is part of a high quality comprehensive national service for children, young people, and their families up to eighteen years of age who are severely or profoundly deaf and have significant difficulties with their mental health. You would be joining a well-established multi-disciplinary team; currently consisting of Psychiatry, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Nursing, Social work, and Family Therapy. 

The role of the Assistant Psychologist is to support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients within the service, across all sectors of care; providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist, working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified clinical psychologist and within the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. The post holder will also assist in clinically related administration, conduct audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching, and project work.

The post holder will work in the London outpatient team including interface with other National Deaf CAMHS services (Kent and Cambridge for instance) and receive clinical supervision and support from the Clinical Psychologists within these teams.

• You will need at least a 2:1 degree in psychology, Level One BSL and good conversational skills in BSL, an understanding of the needs and difficulties of deaf people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities, experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities, and good research skills (including up to date I.T. skills). Experience of working with d/Deaf people would be valuable, but we recognize that not all applicants will have had this opportunity. Tailored induction and training will be provided to enable you to work effectively with this client group.

Our largest, 19-ward site is in Springfield Village, created following our £150m investment into two new world class mental health facilities. A 32-acre public park, shops and cafes are coming soon. Close to shops, cafes and Tooting Bec on the Northern Line plus Earlsfield and Tooting rail stations and bus routes.
