THE APPOINTMENT
We are looking to appoint a new fellow into our Research Fellow position at the Manchester Adult Burns Centre (Wythenshawe Hospital) and the Manchester Paediatric Burns Centre (Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital). This will be a 12 month post during which the successful applicant will lead on prearranged research projects, both local and National related to patients who have sustained Burn injury.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop their skills in the acute management of severe (ITU) burns, the initial and late surgical management of burn wounds and late deformities, and in scar management.
The post-holder will have access to mentorship from the consultant body under supervision of the burns service lead, as well as courses run by the occupational learning and development team which will help to prepare them for a future career in Burns Surgery.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration.
Desirable criteria
- Research qualification
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienceof working with Burn injured adults and children
Desirable criteria
- Registrar level experience in Burn care
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- ability to work as an effective member of the wider burns surgery team including commitment to the burn surgery
Desirable criteria
- evidence of of working within a multidisciplinary team
Research
Essential criteria
- Research GMP qualification
- understanding the principles and applications of clinical research
Desirable criteria
- First / second author contributions to peer reviewed journals with some of these publications in burn care
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training
- Experience of supervising core surgical and specialty trainees or equivalent.
- Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
Desirable criteria
- Trainer/coordinator of a recognised course in burns (eg EMSB/ABLS).
