Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated, flexible, proactive experienced cardiac nurses to join the cardiac surgery specialist nursing team based at the Northwest Heart Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital.
Our team collaborates closely with Consultant cardiac surgeons to provide clinical expertise and knowledge in the assessment, treatment and management of patients along the cardiac surgery pre-admission pathway to promote excellent patient outcomes.
The successful applicant should be highly motivated in working with this patient group and have an active and demonstrable interest in continued professional and service development.
They should be able to work independently and within a team, have excellent communication and time management skills and be responsive to pressures and changing working practices.
The ability to deliver patient teaching, including to patient groups and to colleagues will be an important part of the role.
This role requires cross site and peripheral clinic working and therefore a car driver is essential
You must possess excellent communication skills and have a minimum of three years post registration experience and cardiac surgery and/or cardiology experience.
Main duties of the job
The cardiac surgery specialist nurse will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues relevant to people preparing for cardiac surgery. They will assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care throughout the pre-admission cardiac surgery pathway for elective and urgent patients. Work in collaboration with Consultant Cardiac surgeons, lead specialist nurses, specialist nursing team and operational management to ensure efficient and safe progression along the pre-operative pathway in preparation for surgery. They will preoperatively assess, optimise, prehabilitate, and prepare patients for Cardiac surgery to promote positive surgical outcomes. They will act as an advocate, contact and support patients within a team nursing model.
Assessment involves a wide range of cardiac conditions that require surgical intervention including aortic surgery and nurse-led aortic aneurysm surveillance.
The post is based at Wythenshawe hospital, it involves cross-site working across hospitals in MFT and secondary care centres throughout the Northwest.
A car driver is therefore essential.
