Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist

Band 8a

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Clinical Perfusion Scientist at Wythenshawe Hospital.

The two cardiac  surgery centres in Manchester merged in April 2024 to form a single site at Wythenshawe.

Over 1500 adult cardiac cases will be performed each year including  CABG, valve surgery and repairs of the Aorta.

We are one of  five Adult Heart and Lung Transplant centres in England and have a heart failure programme to compliment this. Patients can be offered several types of mechanical circulatory support including VA ECMO and temporary VAD's. We also offer long term VAD support with the implantation of the Heartmate 3.

Our Lung Transplants are carried out on the Wythenshawe Hybrid Circuit. We also have plans to revisit the use of EVLP for donor lungs this year.

Wythenshawe is one of only seven commissioned Respiratory ECMO centres in the UK . We carry out retrievals from outside ICU's which brings another dimension to our role.

All these specialities make Wythenshawe a special place to be a perfusionist and place us at the forefront of developments in all these fields.

If you are a qualified perfusionist and looking for a fresh challenge, and to learn new skills this is the place for you. No experience is necessary in these specialities, full training will be give by our friendly and supportive perfusion team.

All applicants must have UK registration with the College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists.

1. CPB machine

2. IABP
