Neurodevelopmental Specialist Nurse

Job overview
The post holder will work collaboratively with Community Paediatricians to provide a quality specialist service to children and their families with neurodevelopmental disorders including autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), behavioural problems, and developmental difficulties. This will include contributing to specialist multi professional clinical assessments, interventions, and consultation. The children will primarily be of school age.
Main duties of the job
Be able to act as a resource in the care and service provision for children and young people with ADHD and ASD.
Work alongside and in partnership with Community Paediatricians contributing to multi-professional assessments of ADHD and autism spectrum disorder in children and young people referred to the Community Paediatric Service using up to date and evidence based assessment techniques and tools, assessing information from education providers and parents/carers alongside observation of the young person. This may include specialist assessments in clinic, observations in educational settings, and where necessary home visits on clinical need.

Person specification
Essential and Desirable
Essential criteria
- Registered Children’s Nurse (RSCN) OR Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) OR Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RLDN). Evidence of CPD.
- Experience in practice in the areas of ADHD and ASD.
- Team worker within and beyond organisational boundaries.
- Mobility to travel across sites/ working autonomously in the community setting.
- Able to develop links with other professional networks and integrated agency working
- Good Communication Skills
- Theoretical approaches to child neuro-developmental problems.
Desirable criteria
- Non-Medical Prescriber or willingness to train.
- Ability to evaluate effectiveness. Manage change of provision to meet the needs of children/young people attending.
- Experience of delivering parenting training
