Job overview
The post holder will be based exclusively on the Neonatal Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. This is a large Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 9 Intensive Care cots, 9 High Dependency cots and 19 Special Care cots providing the full spectrum of medical neonatal care including High Frequency Oscillation, inhaled Nitric Oxide and Therapeutic Hypothermia.
The new state of the art Unit is located in the purpose-built Women and Children’s Building. The Unit is led by a dedicated team of experienced Consultant Neonatologists.
The post-holder will work as part of a full shift tier two registrar rota, exclusively within the Neonatal Unit.
Neonatal Cardiology and Haemodynamic training:
The unit has an excellent level of expertise in echocardiography with few of the consultants having undergone echocardiography training including EACVI certification. We have been running a successful in- house training in Neonatal Cardiology and haemodynamic.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based exclusively on the Neonatal Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital (there are no General Paediatric responsibilities). This is a large Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with 9 Intensive Care cots, 9 High Dependency cots and 19 Special Care cots providing the full spectrum of medical neonatal care including High Frequency Oscillation, inhaled Nitric Oxide and Therapeutic Hypothermia. The new state of the art Unit is located in the purpose-built Women and Children's Building. The Unit is led by a dedicated team of experienced Consultant Neonatologists.
The enthusiastic and interested post holder will have ample opportunities to learn Neonatal Echocardiography and will be encouraged to avail himself/herself of the following learning opportunities:
· Attendance on dedicated lecture sessions on Neonatal Echocardiography
· Support for hands-on echo training on the neonatal unit
· Review of echocardiograms performed by the post holder
· Support for formal accreditation for interested candidates
Please liaise with Dr Rahul Bhamkar early, if you have an interest in Neonatal Cardiology and cardiac Haemodynamic.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary medical qualification (e.g., MBChB, MBBS)
- Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of UK ST3 paediatric training or evidence of equivalent training and experience.
- Full registration with General Medical Council and a valid Licence to practise with the General medical council
- Regular hospital service as a senior house officer in Paediatrics including adequate experience in neonatology. Equivalent part-time experience will be recognised.
Desirable criteria
- completion of post graduate qualification e.g., MRCPCH part 1
Skills
Essential criteria
- Use of evidence-based practice
- Experience of working within the NHS in a variety of posts, preferably neonates or paediatrics
- Research Experience
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with neonatal patients’ cares and colleagues
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to take clinical history & undertake examination.
- Knowledge of the workings of the NHS
- Good organisational skills and time management
- Participation in audit
- Understanding of clinical governance
