Job overview

The Quality Matron is responsible for supporting the Head of Nursing of Nursing & Quality (HoNQ) with the clinical quality agenda at Meadowbrook inpatient unit in Salford. Meadowbrook Unit supports adults of working age and is made up of 4 wards; Chaucer Ward 8 - bedded male PICU, Maccoll Ward - 18 bedded male acute, Eagleton Ward – 19 bedded male acute and Keats Ward – 18 bedded female acute.

 

The post holder will provide clinical leadership to each of the inpatient wards and provide and direction for staff in maintaining clinical standards of care and in implementing clinical and quality service improvements. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded.

 

Matrons are vital to delivering high quality care to patients and their relatives across the NHS and the wider health and care sector. They are instrumental in promoting high standards of clinical care, reducing health inequalities and promoting equality for all, workforce retention and recruitment, staff education and development, compassionate, inclusive leadership and patient safety.

The matron’s role is the cornerstone of improving the quality of patient care. They do this through visible inclusive leadership and engagement with patients and families, frontline staff and senior management teams. Matrons provide key assurance to the board, providing evidence that the organisation is delivering safe care and supporting and developing staff to fulfil their roles.

Main duties of the job

The Matron for Quality will support the HoNQ and wider team to deliver clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective high quality clinical care and consistent achievement of care standards. This will be in line with the nationally agreed 10 key responsibilities set out in the matrons handbook as below:

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree, working towards Masters Degree or equivalent level of experience.
  • Up to date Professional Registration (to be maintained)
  • Evidence of post qualification clinical training/professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Risk Management/Root Cause Analysis Training
