PART TIME POST - 28 HOURS A WEEK

TERM TIME ONLY 

   Responsible for assisting in assessing, developing and implementing care programmes in community and clinic settings for children and young people, 0- 19 years, within Stockport.

·         Act as a resource person on the promotion of continence and management of incontinence with this defined age group.

·         Develop and implement education and training programmes for defined age group, carers and relevant community staff in conjuction with the Specialist Continence Nurse (Children and Young People).

Main duties of the job

Provide continence advice and support for all staff involved in the care of children and young people with continence needs aged 0 to 19 years, focusing on the need to promote continence where it may be achieved 

  • Provide advice and support to colleagues and care providers within Stockport.
  • Act as a role model of excellence in children’ continence care.
  • Attend, as appropriate, regional and national events to enable Stockport FT to be identified as a service provider of children’s continence best practice.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff supporting the needs of children with disabilities, including CDU, disability database, school nurses, health visitors, occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
  • Provide clinical intervention in relation to home delivery service enquiries.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Ensure that all patient records are completed and maintained in line with Trust Policy, observing patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Undertake home and school visits to give continence input as required.
  • Be competent interpreting the combined results from bowel charts and fluid intake and output charts.
  • Refer children and young people to other specialist continence nurses, specialist and agencies as appropriate.
  • Work autonomously without supervision, accountable for own professional actions.
  • Refer to Specialist Continence Nurse if any issues require more specialist advice and intervention, thereby maintaining high service standards.
  • Deal with patient complaints in a positive and sensitive way in accordance with Trust Policy.
  • Uphold a professional approach and maintain professional integrity at all times.
  • Practice competencies developed, upholding the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Adhere to Stockport Child Protection Policy and requirements.
  • Gather information to provide specialist advice to assist child protection investigations.

• If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £43.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

  • Registered Nurse

  • First level degree or equivalent

  • Knowledge of continence promotion
  • Understanding of child development
  • Understanding of national and local SEND agenda
  • Understanding of the Children's Continence national guidance and standards
  • Understanding of Child Protection procedures

Experience

  • Community Nursing Experience
  • Experience of working with children and families where there are continence conditions
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary setting
