Clinical Psychologist - Diabetes

Band 8a

Job overview

Whilst this role is being advertised as a Clinical Psychologist Band 8a role, we would also welcome applicants who are eligible for a band 7 role

The Paediatric Psychosocial Service (PPS), part of Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust (MFT) CAMHS which sits within the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

This is a brilliant opportunity for dedicated mental healthcare professionals to promote and improve the mental health and well-being of children and young people with physical health conditions and those who care for them.

We provide inpatient and outpatient support to patients with a wide range of physical health conditions on a local, regional, national and international basis. Working for the Paediatric Psychosocial Service  at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, you'll work with children and young people aged up to 18 years and their families who present with a wide range of complex emotional and behavioural difficulties associated with physical health conditions.

You'll be supported to manage a defined caseload and have the responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and young people. Roles also include consultation and liaison with medical teams.

Main duties of the job

  • With current HCPC registration alongside a recognised doctoral qualification, you'll have a working knowledge of CAMHS, health psychology and/or adult mental health and have an understanding of assessing complex mental health needs & levels of risk, including safeguarding and self-harm.
  • Using your experience of working with vulnerable people and their carers who present with complex mental health needs and are often a risk to themselves or others, you'll undertake assessments and formulate plans for intervention, in collaboration with the Child, Young Person and those who care for them.
  • Dedicated to providing an environment that encourages patient-centred involvement, you'll promote good working relationships as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, making sure care is coordinated with the internal and external departments you work with, with the ultimate aim of providing the best patient journey possible.
  • Using your knowledge of evidence-based practice, you'll offer therapeutic solutions in line with the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines and will have the opportunity to develop expertise in specific therapeutic approaches including CBT, ACT, CFT and more.

Wherever your interests lie, we will support you to develop your skills to become an expert in your field.
