Job overview

A post has become available for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to augment our enthusiastic, innovative and dedicated team of consultants. This post is advertised initially as a fixed term post to provide cover for a consultant taking a maternity break. The post is for 12 months initially.

The post holder will join WUTH in providing a maternal medicine service with regional maternal medicine support where needed. There is a weekly regional maternal medicine MDT.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to hold the RCOG ATSM in maternal Medicine (or equivalent) and will be able to support all maternal medicine services which includes coverage of the Endocrine / Diabetes antenatal clinic. There is also a separate Wednesday general maternal medicine antenatal clinic.

 It would be expected that the post-holder has a leadership qualification and demonstrates a willingness to progress in a leadership role within maternal medicine.

 

The post-holder will be joining a team of consultants and will be expected to participate in the hot week (currently 1:14) and obstetric / gynaecology (currently 1:14) on-call rota and contribute to antenatal care and labour ward management and Caesarean Section Lists to support Ockenden recommendations.

There would be intention to have a regular gynaecology theatre operating session most likely supporting the ‘Hot List’ emergency gynae theatre, which could provide opportunity to perform intermediate gynae surgical procedures.

There will be secretarial support for the post and use of an office for the consultant.  They will also be allocated a mentor by the Trust if required.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month. As this vacancy is within the division of Women’s and Children’s, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £16 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment

Essential criteria
  • Hold a medical qualification and qualification registered with the GMC

  • MD or equivalent higher degree or evidence of relevant research

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty-expertise in the specialty. Specifically significant experience in oncology or rapid diagnosis of suspected cancers.
  • RCOG ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • RCOG ATSM in Oncology
  • Colposcopy experience (ATSM or BSCCP accreditation)
  • Gynae scanning ability for measuring endometrial thickness and assessing ovarian pathology
  • Ambulatory gynaecology skills, including outpatient hysteroscopy
  • Vulval ATSM or experience

Teaching Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to teach clinical skills

  • Experience of supervising junior doctors

Research Experience
