Job overview
These are exciting times for Mersey Care: The Medicines Management Team has had significant investment over the past two years. This has been successful and has supported the development of a new team structure and delivery of a new standard of Medicines Optimisation across the Trust.
We are looking for two enthusiastic candidates with motivation and commitment to join the team as Pre-Registration Training Pharmacy Technicians (PTPT’s) to contribute to our team. As a PTPT you will join us for a two-year Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship Programme to gain knowledge and experience to understand, learn and implement the skills required to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician, whilst rotating to different Technical and Clinical areas of the Medicines Management Team.
We would welcome applications from anyone with an interest in science, an aspiration to work in Medicines Management or those who would like to further their career in Medicines Management. You will have a good knowledge of English and Maths.
Main duties of the job
Our PTPTs support medicines supply throughout the Trust through the dispensary, stores & distribution, ward and community-based teams. You will be an excellent communicator, be caring and passionate about patients, and be able to adapt to working with colleagues of all levels. You will deliver excellent patient care through continually improving the quality of the service. You will be enthusiastic, flexible, and have good time & workload management skills. You will need to be able to evaluate & change priorities at short notice to meet the needs of the service.
During your training, you will also complete your Accuracy Checking training. You will be involved in supporting the efficient running of the dispensary, helping to prioritise work and solve problems. You will rotate between the mental health, secure and intermediate care services. Ward work will focus on developing medicines reconciliation skills, optimising the use of patients’ own drugs, minimising medicines waste and improving medicines governance.
Full training will be provided with our current learning provider. You will be allocated study time each week (or equivalent) and will be supported to identify an appropriate and flexible environment. You will be conscientious and able to self-manage your workload, be committed and self-motivated to completing the required learning on time and maintaining your progress against the learning objectives.
Working for our organisation

We support our staff to do the best job they can and work alongside service users, their families, and carers to design and develop future services together. We’re currently delivering a programme of organisational and service transformation to significantly improve the quality of the services we provide and safely reduce cost as we do so.
Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.
