Job overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to join Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) at a pivotal time, as we establish a brand-new, in-house neurology service. This is a rare chance to be involved from the outset—shaping the future of neurology care in our region and making a lasting impact on patient outcomes.

Currently, neurology services are commissioned through a neighbouring health board. This new post marks the first step in developing a dedicated CTMUHB-led neurology service, with a strong focus on liaison neurology and close alignment with our stroke services. The role includes leadership in stroke thrombolysis and thrombectomy, with a focus on early intervention and diagnosis through front door sessions, hot clinics, and general neurology clinics. There is also scope to develop specialist clinics by mutual agreement.

Further information about this role, and working for CTM can be found here:

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in designing and delivering a liaison neurology model for CTM, working in close collaboration with colleagues at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (C&V UHB), our tertiary referral centre. Strong clinical governance and operational support will be provided through established links with C&V, including protected time to attend tertiary MDTs and CPD meetings.

Key Features of the Role:

·       Help develop a liaison neurology model in collaboration with Cardiff & Vale UHB.

·       Deliver acute neurology care, including front door assessments, urgent and general clinics.

·       Support stroke services alongside a team of five experienced stroke consultants, contributing to a 1:6 on-call rota, primarily delivered from home.

·       Work closely with senior colleagues across District General Hospitals, Primary Care, and other clinical teams. Flexibility to choose a base location, with travel to other CTM sites as required.  Dedicated office accommodation, full IT access across all bases and clinical areas.

·       Full time administrative and secretarial  support provided.

·       Autonomy to organise your professional day, with clear expectations for availability during working hours.

We welcome applications from candidates seeking less than full-time or flexible working arrangements. CTMUHB is committed to supporting a healthy work-life balance and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.

English and/or welsh speakers are welcome to apply.

Interview Date: January 7th 2026
