Main duties of the job
As a Carpenter, you will carry out a wide range of carpentry and building fabric maintenance tasks—both planned and reactive—across Aneurin Bevan University Health Board sites. Your work will include:
- Installation, repair and maintenance of building fabric and structural components
- Fire door inspections, repairs and compartmentation checks
- Ironmongery repairs, lock maintenance and key cutting
- Operation of woodworking machinery and various specialist equipment
- Supporting other trades and contributing to minor improvement works
- Using digital systems such as PDAs, tablets and maintenance management software
- Ensuring full compliance with Health Board policies, safety standards and Building Regulations
This is a hands‑on role requiring technical skill, problem‑solving and the ability to work independently across a variety of environments, including confined spaces, heights, and hot/cold areas.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- City and Guilds Craft Certificate
- Apprenticeship or other recognised and approved training
- NVQ Level III equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
- City and Guilds Advanced Craft
- FIRAS certificate
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post qualified experience
- Installation and maintenance of fire doors
- Knowledge of working within a range of carpentry related services e.g. joinery, glazing, roofing, practical maintenance installation and fault finding
Desirable criteria
- Experience of maintenance carpentry
- Experience of working in a similar environment
- Wood working machinery
Skills And Attributes
Essential criteria
- Must have good craft skill
- Good communication skills
- Can work with minimum supervision
Desirable criteria
- Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh

- Satisfactory Standard DBS clearance
