Looking for a rewarding new role with plenty of flexibility and opportunities for career progression? Look no further than James Paget University Hospital. You’ll be working closely with patients and their families to keep people safe and well.
Our Healthcare Assistants spend most of their time with patients, making sure their care is as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Working alongside a team of experienced Nurses and other clinical professionals delivering care to the people of our Hospital. The HCA role is a great entry-point into an NHS career – many of our Healthcare Assistants go on to complete further training to develop their skills and further their career.
As HCA with no previous experience in care, a Band 2 HCA will provide an opportunity of progression to Band 3 HCA once training competencies are attained.
*If you state that you have the required GCSEs or equivalent qualifications and are unable to provide evidence, we will be unable to continue with your application*
*IF YOU HAVE APPLIED BEFORE THEN PLEASE DO NOT APPLY AGAIN, AND IF YOU REQUIRE SPONSORSHIP, SADLY WE DO NOT OFFER SPONSORSHIP FOR THE HEALTHCARE ASSISTANT ROLE*
Main duties of the job
In this busy environment, roles vary depending on the type of area you work in. For example, working as a Healthcare Assistant on a ward is very different to working as an HCA in Outpatient areas. Some of your responsibilities may include:
Helping patients wash and dress, supporting at meal times, making and changing beds, Taking basic observations, such as temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight, keeping patients comfortable and safe, maintaining good relationships with patients, carers, and relatives.
Experienced HCAs assist patients who may require interventions for the administration of medication, wound, catheter care, bladder scans and support and advice during the last stages of life.
We will provide a training in wound care, care of urethral catheters, caring for the palliative patient, who are nearing the end of their life, obtaining and recording accurately the physiological signs and symptoms of the unwell or deteriorating patient and a variety of other clinical skills.
To fulfil the needs of service delivery to patients/service users and in line with our current team of clinicians, the post holder will work as part of a flexible rota over seven days a week, which will include working evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
