Job overview

Do you want to join a friendly, forward-thinking team committed to providing the best possible medicines care? Are you looking for a flexible opportunity to fit in to your schedule and looking to strike a good work/life balance?

We are looking for organised, motivated and experienced pharmacists to join our clinical pharmacy team on a fixed term basis to cover maternity leave. This role will allow you to build on clinical skills which you may have developed in a rotational role or other sector of pharmacy practice, while additionally building mentorship and leadership experience.

The successful candidate will be a pharmacist with excellent communication and organisational skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills to work effectively as part of the pharmacy team and the wider multidisciplinary team. A thirst to further yourself and take advantage of the learning opportunities available will be advantageous. Experience working within a hospital pharmacy setting in an NHS Trust would be beneficial but not essential, as training and support can be provided for the right candidate.

The post is available at Band 8a or Band 7, based on skills and level of previous experience. Previous experience in respiratory is desirable, but not essential.

Main duties of the job

Given our service requirements this post is not currently aimed at a specific clinical speciality, however respiratory experience is preferred. In the role there will opportunities to work in clinical areas such as admissions, surgery, cardiology, intensive care, gastroenterology, paediatrics, frailty and respiratory medicine.

Some of the main duties are as mentioned:

Providing a clinical pharmacy ward-based service with the opportunity to rotate through multiple specialities:

  • Clinical verification and accuracy checking of prescriptions including outpatient, inpatient and discharge prescriptions.
  • Giving advice and providing training to medical, nursing, other healthcare staff and patients on all aspects of the safe & effective use of medicines.
  • Facilitating medicines reconciliation, discharge planning, and patient counselling assisted by our team of medicines management technicians.
  • Mentorship and management of junior rotational pharmacists and foundation pharmacists.
  • Participation in the on call and weekend working rotas.

Working for our organisation

As a teaching hospital, we are part of the University of East Anglia Medical School and have good links with the University of East Anglia School of Pharmacy.

We want to attract the best and brightest people to work with us and that means we will look after you from the moment you apply for a role at the Trust and throughout your career with us.
