Job overview

Clinical Psychologist 8a 1.0wte (Maternity Leave Cover; fixed term August 2025 – May 2026)

Waveney Older People's CMHT and Memory Treatment Service; Carlton Court Hospital

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to provide maternity leave cover for our service as we develop our older people’s community team and memory assessment services in the Waveney area. The service works with older people with a diagnosis of dementia or functional mental health problems with additional age-related complexities. Our community services support older people living in the Waveney valley and along the North Suffolk coast and comprise a CMHT, Memory Treatment Service, Inreach / Outreach Service and Intensive Older Peoples Service.

We are looking for applicants who are passionate about providing high quality care to older people living in the local community. The post will include opportunities for innovation, quality improvement and training. We have strong links with the clinical psychology course at UEA and the locality is keen to promote good practice and support continued professional development.

You will be working alongside an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist within a well-established team. There will be regular opportunities to meet with other psychologists working with older people across the trust and to receive peer support from the 8b Clinical Psychologist based in the Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team at Northgate Hospital.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the duties that can be found in the job description attached, you will work with the consultant psychologist to provide excellent psychological care for older people in Lowestoft and Waveney, in line with the aspirations of national agendas such as the Long-Term Plan. Our focus is on ensuring that older people can access the very best evidence-based care which supports their emotional wellbeing and addresses areas of unmet psychological need. You will be involved in providing assessment / formulation, individual therapy, neuropsychological assessment and interventions with individuals, carers and families, including supporting the ongoing implementation of a CST group. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team participating in regular team meetings, will provide consultation to colleagues and support the development of team formulations across the wide range of professionals within the older people’s service. We are focussed on promoting psychologically informed care and you will be actively involved in providing education and teaching to colleagues across the various services. This post will be supported by the locality Director of Psychology as well as the Associate Director of Psychology for Older People. The post holder will have the opportunity to work alongside other psychologists across the locality
