NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs. The Critical Care team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital are are recruiting for challenging, and highly rewarding positions as Registered Nurses in one of the most in demand areas of the hospital.

The impressive, modern, purpose built Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is one of the largest acute trusts in the UK and need exceptionally skilled, people-focused, and dedicated individuals for the vitally important Critical Care Complex.

As a Registered Nurse and a part of the Critical Care team you will be providing care to the most vulnerable patients and serious cases in the hospital at the most vital and life altering times. You should therefore be able to demonstrate a calm, composed and caring approach whilst working under pressure.

The Critical Care team will be able to provide you with superb facilities and equipment as well as dedicated Clinical Educators to help support you, your learning and development, and ambitions for career growth within the department and the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Critical Care Nursing is a unique combination of working with the latest techniques and technology and delivering the highest standards of care to patients. 

The Critical Care Complex is a 28 bedded unit which provides care to patients requiring level 2 and level 3 support from a variety of specialties; post-operative care for major surgeries, organ support for both Medical and Surgical patients and emergencies via the Emergency Department.

Our team of over 180 Nurses and 15 Critical Care Consultants are supported by a range of other healthcare professionals to deliver care to our patients. We work as a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team providing care across a range of specialties. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic and enthusiastic Nurse with excellent communication skills to join our team. You will be supported and guided through an initial supernumerary period and will work through the nationally recognised Critical Care Steps Competency Framework.

The successful candidate will work as a competent member of the Critical Care team, supporting the different aspects of the larger multi-disciplinary team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.

  • To have successfully completed the Trust’s preceptorship programme.

  • To manage the ward/ department environment and staffing in the absence of a senior member of staff.

  • To complete the mentorship preparation programme, act as a mentor and provide supervision to junior staff and other learners.

  • Maintain Continuous Professional Development in line with Trust Policy and professional bodies
