Job overview
The Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive pharmacy service across the Trust and to several external community units. We are a large, very busy department with over 180 members of staff including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Science Manufacturing Technicians and Admin staff. There are many varied roles and we all work as a team to provide the different functions and services whilst maintaining a high level of patient care. We have strong links with both the School of Pharmacy, with onsite teacher practitioner posts, and the Medical School at the nearby University of East Anglia.
Functions of the Pharmacy Department include the ordering, receipt, and supply of medicines to wards and departments throughout the Trust/external units. This includes dispensing for inpatients, outpatients, community units and supplying ward stocks averaging around 2,500 items a day. Wards and external units are provided with a clinical service with Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. The Pharmacy provides Aseptic Services such as the preparation and supply of chemotherapy and other sterile products. We have a Quality Assurance team that works to ensure that our products are prepared and supplied to the highest quality standards.

Main duties of the job
Pharmacy Stores is responsible for ensuring that wards and Dispensary have appropriate supplies of medicines and sundries for patients’ use. The postholder will visit wards, check stock, supply what is needed, ensure stock on wards is fit for use and receive and accurately book in deliveries from suppliers. This is an active role for someone who can pay close attention to detail and is able to work as part of a team in a fast-paced and busy environment.
The postholder will also help with medicines that have been returned, ensure that they are disposed of appropriately and avoid waste.
We will provide the required training to complete the units of the NVQ2 or equivalent qualification in pharmacy services within 12 months, involving using the pharmacy computer system and dispensing robot.
We are a large, well-established, friendly team with a strong focus on staff development and well-structured training programmes for all staff. There will be opportunities to apply for progression to Trainee Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician qualifications.
The post is for either full or part-time to be worked Monday to Friday. If requesting part-time, please specify preferred days/hours. There is also a requirement to work 1 in 10 weekends with corresponding time off during the week and to participate in the bank holiday rota, currently minimum 1 per year. Rotas are subject to change at any time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
There is a focus on staff development with a well-structured training programme for all staff and opportunities for progression to Trainee Pharmacy Technician or Science Manufacturing Technician qualification
- To assist with the stock control of medicines and sundries, including stock rotation, putting goods away and return of goods from wards and departments using the JAC computer system within Stores.
- To receive and unpack medicines and sundries and enter into the JAC computer system.
- Processing of medicines for disposal.
- Care and cleaning of designated area used for stocking of medicines and care of equipment used in Stores.
- Processing of extra stock slips for extra supplies of medicines for wards and departments.
- To participate in the ward top-up scheme for the ordering, assembly, checking, delivery and stock rotation of drug supplies to wards and departments.
- Care and cleaning of designated area used for the stocking of medicines and equipment used in Dispensary.
- To assist with the stock control of medicines and sundries, including stock rotation and putting goods away in Dispensary.
- Bulk Fluids including Dietetics
- To assist with the daily distribution of bulk fluids to wards and departments.
