If you are a registered dietitian with experience in food service / catering or are looking to grow your knowledge and skills in this highly specialist area within a healthcare setting, this new post offers a great opportunity. You will provide expert dietetic advice within our catering teams across the Trust and provide assurance to the Trust Board that the foods offered for patients through our standard and special menus meet patients’ needs in accordance with national guidelines and standards.

You will engage with and involve patients and other service users and consider patient experience as well as the nutritional value and safety aspects of the food service

The post is offered fixed term for 12 months initially. If you wish to apply for this role as a secondment please seek permission from your current manager prior to applying.

Main duties of the job

Within the role you will also work closely with the Trust's Food, Nutrition and Hydration Steering Group to support and lead quality improvement work as well as staff education and training across the Trust in relation to food, nutrition and hydration. The Food, Nutrition and Hydration Steering Group is chaired by the Dietetic Professional Lead who will also line manage the post holder.

You will build strong collaborations and networks with the Trust's dietetic service, which comprises of over 30 dietitians, dietetic assistant practitioners and a dietetic support worker and covers specialities including gastroenterology, surgery, critical care, stroke, neurology, renal, oncology and diabetes. The dietetic service also works very closely with the nutrition specialist nurse service.

The dietetic service hosts dietetic student learners on placements from two local universities (Leeds Beckett University and the University of Hull) and you will be involved in practice supervision of students in the context of food service, which could include support for student projects.
