Job overview
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self-motivated Procurement Specialist who would like to join our Procurement and Distribution team in the Pharmacy Department at York or Scarborough Hospital. A good understanding of procurement and stock management is vital for this post.
We are a friendly and innovative teas which thrives on improvement and service development. Experience of working within a Pharmacy Stores would be beneficial, however, not essential as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job
- Supporting with training within pharmacy procurement.
- Participating in reviewing SOPs
- Stock control, ordering and supply of medicines to wards.
- Daily ordering of pharmaceuticals for York and Scarborough Hospitals
- Inputting contracts and dealing with supply issues
- Working with Senior members of the Procurement and Distribution teams to enable improvement and development in line with the Trusts priorities.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths and English at a minimum of grade C (or equivalent)
- CIPS Level 4 Diploma in Procurement and Supply (CIPS)
Desirable criteria
- Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS)
- QCF level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services
Experience and Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
- Liaises with suppliers to encourage them to meet organisational purchasing needs and persuades customers to use contract arrangements
- Knowledge of purchasing principles acquired through training and/or experience including knowledge of contract law (acquired through short courses and experience or equivalent.)
- Negotiates and discusses contractual issues with suppliers – including monitoring and managing the performance of suppliers and action as appropriate, e.g. contract reviews, performance monitoring and resolution of disputes.
- Ability to write clear reports and/or present information appropriate for a range of different stakeholders
Desirable criteria
- 2 years of public sector procurement experience
- Hospital pharmacy experience.

Essential criteria
- Assesses customer requirements, determines the appropriate supplier, analyses financial and purchasing data for quotes and options for purchases and contract awards
- Able to make independent judgements in compliance of local and statutory rules and regulations.

- The ability to set own priorities and/or goals
- An ability to plan independently and interdependently with a range of stakeholders

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
