Senior Occupational Therapist In-Patients Band 6 - 37.5 hours, 1 post permanent and 1 post 12 months fixed term or secondment
We are looking to recruit a Senior Occupational Therapist to join a busy in-patient Medicine Specialities rotation. The rotation covers Surgery and Critical Care, Medicine and Surgery, Medicine and Oncology and Health Care of Older People.
The role is predominantly clinical but does also allow non clinical time for service development. The post holder will work alongside a team of Senior Occupational Therapists and Team Leaders.
You will also need to be enthusiastic, dynamic, be forward thinking and have a problem solving approach to patient management. The successful candidates will be expected to work alongside Band 7 OT’s in maintaining a high standard of clinical assessment and treatment. The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills in a wide range of areas including the medicine specialities and neurology and be able to provide planned and unplanned care. They must have excellent discharge planning skills as the team manage complex discharges which assist patients to manage their own long term conditions.
We aim to discharge people home in line with the “home-first” or “discharge-to-assess” (D2A) model which aims to stop patients being stranded on hospital wards. The team work closely with other agencies to carry out assessments in order to support our patients to go home whenever possible or assist in planning further care if needed. The post holder will work closely with junior members of staff to develop their skills to enable them to make difficult decisions and work with complex patients independently.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has a very close working relationship with the University of Nottingham and other institutions of higher education. Senior OT’s are expected to support student placements within the team and provide formal and informal training.
NUH supports seven day working to benefit patients and you will be required to work flexibly across seven days within this post by working on our weekend working rota.
