Job overview

The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

To provide an effective and efficient Waiting List service to all Medical staff, patients, General Practitioners and other health professionals, whilst maintaining accurate Waiting List data. 

Main duties of the job

We have a part time opportunity for enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated individuals to join our Waiting List team.

The purpose of this role is to ensure Theatre lists are utilised fully, ensuring targets are adhered to and supporting effective Theatre scheduling. This will include all operative specialties, including arrangements for pre-operative assessment.

You must:

  • Be computer literate
  • Have a good general education with GCSE English at grade C (or equivalent)
  • Have clerical experience
  • A knowledge of  Medway and NHS in general would be desirable

The working hours for these posts will be:

Monday- Saturday  08.45 - 17.00

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide an effective and efficient clerical Waiting List service to patients, designated clinicians, wards, Pre-Operative Assessment Unit and Specialist Nurses, ensuring that accurate waiting list information is maintained at all times. This will involve the cultivation and maintenance of good relationships with appropriate consultants and other health service employees.

All of the following tasks will be carried out in accordance with the Trust's Access Policy.

Ensure timely delivery of case notes and TCI lists to wards and departments in readiness for the patient’s admission/attendance. Ensure that all short notice additions to admissions lists are telephoned to the appropriate departments and documentation is made available at the earliest opportunity. This will enable wards and clinicians to prepare appropriately for the patients admission.

Ensure that all patients are swiftly placed on the appropriate Waiting List and that particular attention is given to urgency and procedure involved, thereby ensuring that patients are allocated appropriate admission details. At the latest all forms must be added by 5.00 pm each Friday in order that they appear on the following weeks PTL (Primary Targeting List)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Computer literate, with 1 year experience of using a keyboard with a high level of accuracy
  • Knowledge of NHS or service provider in general
  • Knowledge of databases, spreadsheets ie Medway, Excel or similar applications
  • RSA II, ECDL, NVQ 3 or equivalent work experience
Desirable criteria
  • Sound office clerical background
