Job overview
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining high standards of cleaning in line with the National Specifications for Cleanliness in the NHS.
To work as an integral part of the theatre team ensuring a clean and safe environment for our patients and staff.
Main duties of the job
We are currently looking to recruit a motivated individual, who would like to join the West Wing theatres team.
You would be responsible for providing and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the shared areas within the theatre suite, Sometimes working on your own but often working as part of a team to provide a clean and safe environment for patents, staff and visitors.
Along with the cleaning tasks, Housekeepers also support the nursing team by ensuring theatre scrubs are ordered and stored away and the store rooms are tidy. You will report or escalate any disrepair or cleaning jobs needed that are the responsibility of the contact cleaners.
There are opportunities for further development within theatres if you show initiative and a willingness to learn.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Maintain high standards of cleanliness in line with agreed procedures which aim to reduce the risk of hospital
acquired infections.
Abide by the strict ‘National Colour Coding System’ for cleaning within a healthcare environment.
To co-operate when new methods of working are introduced with the aim of improving work schedules and frequencies.
Contribute to the maintenance of the fabric of the buildings by reporting defects and faults to ensure a safe working environment.
To ensure the rest rooms and kitchens are kept clean and tidy and have adequate stocks of provisions, crockery, cutlery. Reporting shortfalls to the relevant departments.
To empty and remove all clinical, domestic and recyclable waste ensuring waste segregation and identification procedures are followed at all times.
To take responsibility for the safe storage of all cleaning products and materials, ensuring hazardous chemicals are locked safely within cleaning trolley’s and resource cupboards.
To carry out curtain changes as and when required or instructed.
To ensure a clean uniform is worn at all times when on duty and to use relevant Personal Protective Equipment
i.e. gloves, aprons and non-slip footwear in accordance with the Trusts PPE Policy and Infection Control guidelines.
To complete all statutory and mandatory training in line with your contract of employment.
Assist in the covering of cleaning duties across the West Wing and JR main theatres
Work closely with the theatre team carrying out any reasonable duties requested.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
