Job overview

An exciting opportunity for a part-qualified accountant, the post holder will provide specialist financial advice, support and information to managers at all levels, within the area of Primary care and delegated secondary care budgets. 

The post holder will be responsible for analysing, investigating and providing financial management advice, identifying financial trends to support strategic forecasting and operational expenditure obtained from the analysis of financial data.

The post holder will ensure the production of integrated, efficient, effective, accurate and timely Management Accounting information for all Managers, to enable the organisation to operate effectively and to make valid decisions about its future direction.

The post holder will work with and provide assistance to the management accountant in the management of financial processes for primary care, which includes General Medical Services, New Pharmacy Contract, Prescribing and Dispensing and General Dental Services.  They will analyse and maintain the budgets for delegated primary care and 
secondary care, analysing and monitoring monthly spend and forecast expenditure.

They will need to develop and maintain strong links to the primary care practices and contractors within Powys 
 board with an aim to enhance financial information flow some of which will be of a highly sensitive and contentious nature.

 

Main duties of the job

As the Primary Care Finance analyst, the post holder will have a key role within the organisation, providing specialist financial advice to the Primary Care team. 

Working autonomously, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring financial systems are in place to manage, monitor and provide advice on all aspects of financial management within the primary care team, ensuring legislative and health board processes and accountability framework are followed.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Part Qualified (CCAB) Accountancy Qualification.
  • Educated to graduate degree level or AAT qualified
Desirable criteria
  • Studying for a CCAB qualification

Knowledge and understanding

Essential criteria
  • Management accounting experience
  • Significant experience of budgetary management
  • Significant experience of Primary Care services budgetary systems and procedures Significant experience of working with primary care contractors and general practice managers
  • IT skills in the use of MS office applications (Word and Excel)
Desirable criteria
  • Significant experience of, and exposure to NHS Financial management accounting systems
