An opportunity has arisen within Powys Teaching Health Board (PtHB) to join our team as a Pharmacy Technician for the national COVID vaccination programme. The post offers a full-time role until 31/03/2023 (secondment opportunity available).
Reporting to the Senior Pharmacy Technician Lead for the COVID Vaccination Programme, and working alongside experienced MM team. we are looking for a pharmacy technician to work alongside our pharmacy COVID vaccination team to:
Support PtHB COVID Mass Vaccination Programme, following relevant procedures to deliver a safe and effective service.
Develop a good working knowledge of the Welsh Immunisation System.
Assist in solving issues, supporting/mentoring junior staff and support improvement of quality management systems.
The role will include adherence to cold chain systems and management of vaccine from receipt through to delivery throughout Powys.
Main duties of the job
To work within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.
To work as part of a team under the supervision of the senior pharmacy technician or pharmacist, using own initiative to deal with routine enquiries (e.g availability and supply of medicines), referring to the senior pharmacy technician or a pharmacist if necessary.
We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about patient care and wants to improve patient services, always ensuring that the best is obtained from medicines.
The post holder will be a pharmacy technician registered with the GPhC . We will provide ongoing personal development and training opportunities.
This post is up to 37.5 hours per week. The majority of the post-holder’s time will be spent at the Bronllys hospital site, although some travel may also be required. This post, on occasion, will require some early morning shifts.

Qualification and / or Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical (GPhC).
- BTEC Certificate/Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Services Skills (QCF) or registerable equivalent.
- Good working knowledge of pharmacy procedures and practice
Desirable criteria
- Membership of relevant professional association.
- Knowledge of NHS Pharmacy services.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent pre-registration experience in any sector of pharmacy.
- Experience of counselling patients on how to use their medication and common side effects.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in multiple pharmacy sectors
- Experience of medicines management or near patient services.
