An opportunity has arisen within Powys Teaching Health Board (PTHB) to work jointly with our Immunisation/Vaccination Team and Community Services Team as a rotational Pharmacy Technician. This is a permanent position.

Reporting to the Senior Pharmacy Technician for Immunisation/Vaccination & Pharmacy Stores, we are looking for an enthusiastic pharmacy technician to work alongside our Pharmacy Imms/Vacc team and Community Services team to:

  • Support the implementation of the National Immunisation Framework for Wales in PTHB.
  • Support the delivery of a safe and effective imms/vacc service, with particular emphasis around governance.
  • Support and promote adherence to cold chain systems and management of vaccine from receipt through to delivery throughout Powys.
  • Provide active participation within the Vacc Centre to provide pharmacy support to clinical staff.
  • Assist in solving issues, supporting/mentoring junior staff and support improvement of quality management systems.
  • Act as a work based mentor for pharmacy support staff undertaking level 2 qualifications.
  • Promote and implement all principles of a successful meds management service throughout Powys hospitals to provide an integrated pharmacy service.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside our experienced Immunisation/Vaccination Team and Community Services Team, to gain valuable experience and to contribute to the delivery of the ambitious national immunisation programme to PTHB residents, and to support the pharmaceutical service and Medicines Management agenda.

We are looking for someone who is motivated and passionate about patient care and wants to improve patient services, always ensuring that the best is obtained from vaccines/medicines.

The post holder will be a pharmacy technician registered with the GPhC . You will be a focused individual with a keen eye for detail, have outstanding organisational skills and be able to manage and prioritise your daily workload.

We will provide ongoing personal development and training opportunities.

This post is up to 37.5 hours per week. A proportion of the post-holder’s time will be spent at the Bronllys hospital site, although some travel will also be required. This post, on occasion, will require some early morning starts (Bronllys site).

Qualifications and / or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician (NVQ3, BTEC Pharmacy Specialist, etc)
  • Current registration with the GPHC
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Checking Technician qualification held, or relevant experience
  • Medicines Management accredited
  • GDP qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification Pharmacy experience
  • Experience / ability to use IT packages
  • Experience and/or understanding of the cold chain
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in Specialist Pharmacy Technician wardbased or Medicines Management role
  • Experience of vaccination programmes
  • Experience of working with electronic Pharmacy systems
