Job overview

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to be appointed as a Band 7 Training Manager.

This is a part time secondment post and is fixed term until 31st March 2026 due to the needs of the service.

The Training Manager will lead the development and coordination of a national research governance training programme for research staff across NHS Wales and the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure. The post holder will collaborate with UK counterparts to ensure consistent, high-quality training standards. They will also contribute to the ongoing UK-wide development of the GCP training programme.

The post holder will require excellent communication skills, have a positive and flexible approach to the needs of the Service, be motivated, ready for the next challenge and enjoy working as part of a very busy team.

Main duties of the job

·       Lead on the development and delivery of a national GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and associated research governance training, (e.g. informed consent, essential documents, monitoring skills) programme for Wales. This will be based on recommendations and priorities identified through training needs analysis undertaken across the Health and Care Research Wales infrastructure 

·       Contribute to the ongoing review and development of the NIHR GCP training material, including the provision of information gathered in Wales

·       Assess NIHR courses and resources in relation to the GCP programme in Wales, adapting course content to research professionals within Wales as required

·       Review the provision of GCP training on an ongoing basis and ensure that it is sufficiently comprehensive to meet the needs of each discipline involved in research, including paediatric, pharmacy, primary care and laboratory GCP, as well as NHS professionals caring for adults lacking capacity to consent to research

·       Co-ordinate, train and sustain a network of skilled and experienced GCP Facilitators in Wales, providing professional support and mentorship, in collaboration with the Senior Training and Development Manager to ensure local delivery of training by local facilitators

·       Manage and develop ongoing collaborative processes with key stakeholders within Wales to ensure that GCP training is regularly reviewed and evaluated to identify ongoing needs and priorities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Masters degree level in a health/ social care discipline, research or management, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Project management experience
  • Research management or coordination experience
  • Significant experience of working at a managerial level in a relevant setting, including experience in managing teams
  • Knowledge and experience of assessing training needs and delivery of training, to include the delivery of GCP training
  • Experience in developing and delivering programmes in training and development in higher education, within the NHS or any other relevant setting
  • Significant experience of working with multidisciplinary teams and cross-organisational working
  • Working knowledge of clinical research management to include experience of the planning, coordination and conduct of research
  • Specialist knowledge of GCP legislation and the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social care Research
  • Specialist knowledge and practical application of Good Clinical Practice, Research Management & Governance, Clinical Trials Regulations, Data Protection and Freedom of Information legislation, together with the ability to disseminate the knowledge and information
  • Knowledge of quality and research governance issues in health and social care setting
