Specialist Nurse for Children Looked After and Care Leavers

Job overview
Fixed term: 12 months | 37.5hrs per week
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Nurse to join our dynamic team. You will assess the health needs and direct resources to meet the needs of vulnerable children and young people (CYP).
You'll be a registered Nurse with training in CYP care, and have post-registration experience working with CYP and their families, especially in community settings and with children who are Looked After.

Main duties of the job
Reporting into the Named Nurse for Children Looked After, your responsibilities will include:

Work with the Named Nurse for Children Looked After and other specialists to develop and deliver services for hard-to-reach young people.

Help improve health and wellbeing outcomes for Children Looked After and Care Leavers in Sheffield through health assessments, health care reviews, health promotions, and tailored interventions.

Collaborate within a multi-agency team to support the holistic care of children and young people.

Follow the guidance of ‘Promoting The Health and Wellbeing of Looked After Children’ (DH & DoE 2015) and other relevant documentation.

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- RSCN, RN (adult or child) or RN (LD) or RN (Mental Health)
- Qualified to Diploma or Degree level
- ENB 998 or equivalent teaching certificate
- NMC registration
Desirable criteria
- Basic counselling qualification
- Post basic qualification in speciality/relevant field
- Post Registration qualification in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health visiting/School nursing or duel)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience at Band 5 or above in a relevant paediatric setting or other appropriate and relevant experience in a community setting
- Experience of working with Looked After Children and young people
- Experienced with multiagency working
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the provision of nurse-led clinics
- Experience of teaching / training others
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge or holistic, family-centred care
- Knowledge and understanding in safeguarding children/young people and principles of child protection
- Knowledge and skills working with vulnerable children and young people, their families/carers
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage own time and use initiative, managing your own work/caseload
- Sound IT skills
- Driver and access to a car
Desirable criteria
- Good understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the looked after children team
- Audit skills
- Knowledge and skill in delivering training/teach other
- Knowledge and skills in health assessment and intervention, including public health needs
