Therapy Assistant - Community Respiratory Physiotherapy

Band 3

Job overview

The Community Physiotherapy Team is seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 3 Therapy Assistant to support the delivery of high‑quality respiratory and rehabilitation services across Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) and Montagu Hospital (MMH).

Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary therapy team, you will contribute to the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation programmes, assist within respiratory outpatient clinics, treat patients in the community, and provide essential administrative and service-support functions to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centred care.

You will work under the guidance and supervision of experienced physiotherapists and therapy assistants, supporting patients to maximise independence, self‑management, and functional ability within community and outpatient settings. This role offers a varied and rewarding mix of clinical and non‑clinical duties, with opportunities to develop skills in respiratory care, exercise delivery, patient education, and service coordination.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the delivery of pulmonary rehabilitation sessions, including supervising exercise circuits, monitoring patient symptoms, and promoting safe activity progression.
  • Assist physiotherapists in the assessment and treatment of respiratory outpatients, including functional assessments and patient education.
  • Provide administrative support such as booking appointments, maintaining accurate patient records, managing equipment, and supporting service coordination.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of services across both DRI and MMH, including preparation of clinical areas and assisting with group classes.
  • Encourage patient motivation, adherence, and confidence through clear communication and compassionate support.
  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, therapy assistants, and wider MDT colleagues to ensure seamless care pathways.
  • Participate in in‑service training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in respiratory and rehabilitation therapy.
