An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of Elective Care at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This is a key position within the Chief Operating Officer Leadership team to support the delivery of high quality, productive and efficient services that are innovative and responsive. This will include the operational leadership of specific improvement programmes.

Please note that interviews will be held on 28th August and 1st September 2025

Main duties of the job

The overriding purpose of the role is to support the provision of timely access to the highest quality patient care through professional operational and strategic leadership and management actions creating a culture of continuous improvement in accordance with NHS management standards.

Person specification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant senior leadership and operational management experience within an acute Trust, in clinical services that provide elective care
  • Subject matter expertise in Elective Care, Cancer and Diagnostics, including related national rules / reporting requirements
  • Proven track record in the delivery of productivity and efficiency improvements in elective care
  • Proven track record of leading the delivery of timely access to care to meet national access standards.
  • Proven track record in elective care service improvement and / or transformation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in demand and capacity modelling
  • Experience in Consultant job planning, aligned to demand and capacity modelling, to meet service needs

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Experience equivalent to the attainment of degree qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate leadership / management qualification
  • Training and experience in using quality improvement and project management approaches.
  • NHSE Demand and Capacity training
  • NHSE Elective Care & Cancer Care essentials training

Essential criteria
  • Excellent planning and prioritising skills, able to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings. The ability to express oneself clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and effectively utilise a range of financial, operational and clinical data to deliver services, manage budgets, identify problems and deliver evidence based solutions.

  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to be able to support / develop colleagues and build effective teams
