Job overview
Join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy team to work with Head and Neck Cancer, Voice and Acute Inpatients.

Main duties of the job
The job:
- Inpatients: inpatients across a variety of wards, including AMU, Critical Care, Frailty, Dementia, ENT, Surgical, Cardiology, Orthopaedic and Respiratory.
- Outpatients: Head & Neck cancer including pre and post radiotherapy, max fax and laryngectomy; voice and outpatient dysphagia.
- Support the Clinical Team Leads with operational management of the Adult SLT service.
- Work with Head and Neck cancer inpatients and outpatients as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Liaise with colleagues across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and participate in the regional Head and Neck MDT meetings.
- Deliver training and education to the wider MDT and provide clinical education to SLT students and T-level students
- Contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with adult acute inpatients with swallowing and communication disorders caused by a wide range of aetiologies
- Experience of working with dysphagic and dysphonic patients in an outpatient setting
- Experience of working with complex ethical issues regarding swallowing and nutrition and hydration
- Experience of working as part of an MDT
- Evidence of knowledge of local and national policy and SLT standards of care within specialisms
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with adult patients with Head and Neck Cancer including maxillofacial and laryngectomy and tracheostomy
- Experience of working in ENT settings
- Experience in supervision of other members of the SLT Team
- Experience in the supervision of Speech and Language Therapy students
- Experience of delivery of education to non-SLT colleagues
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Profession Specific Degree, e.g. BSc Speech Sciences or MMedSci Speech and Language degree
- Member of the Healthcare Professionals Council (HCPC)
- Member of the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Post basic training in dysphagia – minimum of one year’s experience since dysphagia competencies passed and signed off
- Voice training and competencies
Desirable criteria
- Advanced dysphagia skills in Head and Neck Cancer including maxillofacial, laryngectomy and tracheostomy
- Leadership training
