Job overview

To work towards improving data quality on the Symphony and other patient-based systems linked to information reporting frameworks and statutory information, quality and performance management returns.

Main duties of the job

Carry out data validations relating to the recording of patient attendances on Symphony, including 4 hour breaches, exception reports, 12 hours from DTA reports as well as weekly and monthly performance reports.

The post holder must implement, analyse, interpret and apply judgements involving a range of options to complex multi-specialty patient pathways to ensure compliance with national guidance and other reporting frameworks.

The post-holder will work as part of a professional divisional clinical admin team, working very closely with the central  Data Quality Team promoting the  principles of ‘Right First Time'.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 GCSE’s including English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above or suitable equivalent qualification(s) or experience.
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous relevant NHS experience of working in a patient administration role and able to demonstrate a good understanding of patient flows
  • Good understanding of NHS access standard principles
  • Proven experience of using Outpatient, Inpatient and Waiting List modules of the Patient Administration System (PAS) to an intermediate level.
  • Good working knowledge of Trust case notes
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex case notes and data within core systems such as PAS and CASSIE to understand the patient’s journey at each point into patient pathways.
  • Previous practical experience of data handling, including sourcing data, data collection and validation, demonstrating competency to an advanced level.
  • Awareness of the effects of poor data quality on patient experience and other Trust and national agendas with particular reference to access standards.
  • Good understanding of the patient pathway and Trust data collection systems and how they link to access standards.
  • Clear understanding of the concept of patient confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of clinical pathways & NHS Access Standards in Urgent & Emergency Care
  • Previous experience within a Clinical Division, Information Management or Medical Records
  • Previous experience on high volume validation work preferably UEC access standards
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
