Job overview
We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, professional nurse to manage our gynaecology ward. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of care are delivered, through effective teamwork.
You will have a passion for women's health and strive to lead and develop this service.
This is a senior Nursing/Midwifery role within the organisation.
Main duties of the job
As leader of a defined clinical area and an expert practitioner, liaise, guide and advise the multi-disciplinary team and external agencies in the provision of optimum patient care.
- Be responsible for ensuring the environment and ward processes are responsive to the needs of patients and their carers recognising the importance of privacy, dignity and diversity
- Individuals will be highly visible in their clinical areas, working alongside, and leading the team in a clinical supervisory role
- Maintain high levels of visibility at visiting times to facilitate proactive communication with patients and carers
- Acting as a role model, employ professional behaviour that encourages and coaches their team members to challenge their current competencies, whilst seeking opportunities to enhance their roles. This includes the creation of a culture of appraisals and personal and professional development whilst setting clear smart objectives to meet the needs of the individual, clinical area and organisation
- Proactively maintain and foster clear lines of communication between the clinical staff and the CSU management team.

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Senior Nurse/ Midwife with post registration and speciality experience
- Can demonstrate the ability to undertake 24 hour responsibility for the ward / department
- Evidence of experience of taking charge or managing a caseload
- Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory
- Evidence of change management experience
- Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentorship
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels
- Be conversant with current professional issues related to nursing/midwifery
- Ability to provide relevant advice to junior nurses and doctors on a variety of management and clinical issues
- Able to promote equality, diversity and rights
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of complaints handling
- Previous experience of budgetary management
- Presentation skills to variety of audiences
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- First level registration
- Current NMC registration is essential
- Teaching and mentorship qualification
- Educated to degree level in health related subject (or willingness to commence degree programme within 1 year in post) or be able to demonstrate equivalent level of experience &/or education, training & development
- Provide evidence of continuous professional development, documented within CPD portfolio
- Willingness to complete ward manager development programme
- Post basic qualification in specialty

- NLP training
