Job overview
To provide operational management in the Physiotherapy team in acute stroke and neurology and clinical expertise leadership across the Stroke Pathway.
To manage own caseload and to provide a high standard of assessment, management, treatment and advice to meet the needs of patients.
To act as a point of contact for other agencies for issues relating to Physiotherapy provision.
To work collaboratively with colleagues in health, social care, local authority and other agencies to meet the needs of patients.
To ensure the efficient and effective use of resources available within the physiotherapy team.
To work with other members of the team in the development of the service.
To ensure Clinical Governance is integral to service delivery within the specialty area.
Main duties of the job
To act as lead source of clinical expertise within Physiotherapy.
• To act as a point of contact for external agencies and provide advice and guidance with regard to the service.
• To hold responsibility for managing own caseload within an agreed defined area.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate therapy intervention to meet the assessed needs of patients.
• To ensure assessment / treatment is completed in the most appropriate environment.
• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work and support junior staff to do the same.
• To provide specialised and highly specialised advice to colleagues with regard to the Physiotherapy management of patients with complex and highly complex needs.

Person specification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Senior Physiotherapist with post registration and speciality experience in stroke and neurology
- Broad base of clinical experience within Acute and Rehabilitation settings
- Evidence of experience of operational staff management such as sickness, leave, and rotas
- Evidence of change management experience and leading on service development
- Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentorship
- Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels
- Experience of managing complex case and supporting complex discharge planning
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of complaints handling
- Previous experience of budgetary management
- Presentation skills to variety of audiences
- Experience across pathways including community based therapy
- Evidence of mentoring, coaching and / or providing clinical supervision
- Experience of using E Roster and System One
- Evidence of experience in managing and supervising a caseload for a multidisciplinary team
- Evidence of experience of managing a team of therapists day to day to manage sickness, leave, and rotas.
- Evidence of supporting patient flow within a designated area / across a pathway
Qualification and Training
Essential criteria
- Professional Degree in Physiotherapy
- Current HCPC registration is essential
- Post basic qualification in speciality e.g Bobath
- Provide evidence of continuous professional development, documented within CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
- Management/ Leadership qualifications or modules
- Relevant MSc Level Qualifications
- Teaching and Mentorship qualification
