Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technician (electrical) to work in the Estates Maintenance Team. The Trust is seeking a qualified trades person to develop their engineering background with some management duties to support the Maintenance Manager. You will be part of a great team who are responsible for the delivery of a comprehensive maintenance and installation service across the Trust’s estate. The post attracts a band 6 salary plus overtime + on call allowance + any call out payments.

The post holder will have both technical and managerial duties and act as an Authorised Person (AP) for Low Voltage works for which full training and development can be provided. Applicants must be a suitably trained time served electrician and have undertaken an apprenticeship. You will be carrying out maintenance and installation work across our Trust properties and work with a variety of our specialist contractors and engineers. Our aim is to provide our patients and staff with compliant, safe, and pleasant environments to work in. You will enjoy working with all our clinical staff, nurses, doctors, and corporate staff to support them in their work.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the Estates and Facilities Maintenance team the post holders are responsible for delivery of the Trust’s planned maintenance and repair service. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the post holders will have line management responsibility for half the team comprising of Multi-skilled Maintenance Technicians and Maintenance Assistants.

The post holders have a technical role in ensuring that planned maintenance is programmed, carried out and all relevant documentation is retained ensuring that all relevant regulatory and advisory frameworks are followed. The post holders will have Authorised Person LV (LVAP) duties for which training will be provided and will participate in the crafts persons on call rota. The post holders will work closely with the Maintenance Manager and Work Planner to improve planned preventative maintenance (PPMs), legal compliance and the reactive maintenance service across the estate.

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • 4-year accredited apprenticeship training course, level 3 vocational qualification
  • Post apprenticeship diploma, ONC or NHC or degree or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Post apprenticeship diploma, ONC or HNC or degree or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Ability and attitude to technically develop further where any training gaps may be identified.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to explain operational and technical issues to other estates staff, clinical/nursing staff, managers and patients.
Desirable criteria
  • People Management experience
  • Able to use computer systems to improve management report, control and compliance

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the techniques and standards of building, mechanical or electrical engineering services and contract procedures with a minimum of 4 years continuous, relevant experience
  • Knowledge of health and safety law, building regulartions, HTMs and NHS policies related to building, electrical or mechanical and engineering services
