Job overview
The post holder will work across different sites within the Trust working with patients and family members with hearing and communication difficulties.
The post holder will perform admin and clerical work to aid the running of the service and is expected to use his/her own initiative and skills in accordance with the Department’s requirements. This role covers both Adults and Paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
Work at different sites across the Trust including Sandringham Road Clinic, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital, Montagu Hospital and Retford Hospital.
Provide admin support for both Adult and Paediatric Audiology Services.
All duties and responsibilities of a clerical band 2 role.
Processing new referrals and internal referrals into the service.
Booking of all appointments and associated paperwork, this includes a good working knowledge of complex pathways. Along with effectively using Audiology waiting lists, including validation as and when required.
Provide secretarial service to the Hearing Rehabilitation Centre including typing of all correspondence, minutes of meetings, reports, tables etc.
Undertake a wide range of work procedures requiring knowledge of software programmes and secretarial procedures and knowledge acquired through relevant courses, training and experience
Communicate effectively with people who have hearing and communication difficulties
Communicate with people on various levels e.g. patients and Consultants
Liaise closely with the Team Leader/Service Manager on activity issues to ensure good management of service.
Use empathy when dealing with anxious or distressed patients and relatives.
Dealing with enquiries, questions, problems on a daily basis effectively and promptly, either face to face, by telephone or other communication device.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working with the general public
- Experience of working in a busy and demanding office
- Experience planning and organising workloads
- Experience handling telephone calls
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages and associated software
- Experience within an administration role
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in a patient facing post
- Previous experience working with people with hearing and communication difficulties
- Previous hospital, social care of similar experience.
- Knowledge of the Trusts patient management system (CAMIS)
- Knowledge of the audiology patient management system (Audit Base)
Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- GCSE Maths grade C or above (or equivalent)
- GCSE English grade C or above (or equivalent)
- Competent use of basic computer programmes.
Desirable criteria
- RSAIII qualification
- NVQ 2/3 Administration
- Relevant secretarial training/qualifications
